Refurbished HDTV How Do They Match Up to Brand New HDTV's

Refurbished HDTV's vs. brand new high definition televisions. When buying an HDTV or LCD HDTV you may see price differences in two of the same units, the only difference may be that one is refurbished while the other is brand new. This article will attempt to help you understand why the refurbished or brand new is the best choice for you.

HDTV has populated our imaginations completely. We think of the advancement that technology has made and then we think of how we have changed from the picture-tube based analog broadcast to the flat panel technology and now to the digital broadcast system called high-definition. High definition television is filled with greater image resolution, compactness and stronger image detailing. This is why it is high-definition.

For whatever reason, plasma or an LCD supporting HDTV might be returned by a customer. How does this happen? Well, many top brands have a lot of faith in their products and thus they offer money-back guarantees or product exchanges if returned within a limited timeframe. The money-back guarantee or product exchanges are for those few customers who feel like they purchased a second-rate, inadequate, or defective product, they can simply return it for their money-back or exchange it for the same or similar product of same value then provide feedback so the company can improve their product offerings. Once a product has been returned it is sent to the original manufacturer then re-examined and defective parts (if any) are replaced by the manufacturer and redistributed as a refurbished unit.

Consumer retail stores cannot resell customer returned HDTV's as original units. They must resend the unit to the manufacturer to determine if the high definition television is usable. If the manufacturer determines that the HDTV or flat panel LCD is not usable then they will replace the defective parts, make any adjustments, and reconfigure the unit for operation. Once the unit is good to go and is usable the manufacturer will reset, repackage and overhaul the whole product. They stamp their personal warranty, the heavy "manufacturer's warranty" and resend the unit to an online or offline retailer who then sells it as a factory refurbished HDTV.

Refurbished HDTV's are sold at roughly 60 percent less of the retail price of a brand new HDTV. This makes choosing which one to buy more difficult, since now cost-effectiveness comes into play. On one side you have a brand new HDTV that cost the original regular price and on the other hand you have an equally good unit at half the cost, but cannot be too sure of the quality or longevity of the unit since it is a refurbished unit.

Deciding to buy refurbished over brand new is a gut feeling. It is a fact that 98 times out of 100 you will not be disappointed with a refurbished unit. Many times consumers are unaware they are purchasing a refurbished unit unless they pay attention to detail. If you have ever purchased a refurbished product, used car, or used merchandise then you should know that upon purchasing you will inherit any existing problems and many times you will not experience any problems until after the warranty has expired.

The decision to purchase refurbished is a personal one, because only you will know what you can afford. I feel if you can afford to purchase a product at the original regular cost then buying brand new is probably your best choice, but if you are seeking a discount or savings then finding manufacturer refurbished HDTV's is your best option, because you will get the best deal available with little or no headaches.

Regardless, which route you decide, brand new or refurbished you will always run the risk of purchasing a defective or inadequate product, but it comes down to which is most important to you...the warranty coverage or the price of product? If you are most concerned about amount of warranty coverage then you should opt for a brand new unit since it will give you the best warranty deal, but if you are most concerned the here and now which resolves around the cost of the HDTV then you should opt for the refurbished units since the cost is dramatically reduced but the product quality is fully restored.

I tend to seek out factory refurbished products because I like to get a deal and pay almost half the cost for many products. I highly recommend refurbished product because I have not had any major problems with any product I've bought refurbished which I wouldn't have with brand new purchases, therefore it makes sense to purchase refurbished. However, if you have an unlimited amount of financial resources and money is not an object then purchasing brand new will make certain you get the latest and greatest with all original parts and never used. Sometimes brand new gives a peace of mind and eliminates the blame.
