Get Out of Debt -- Step Away from the Credit Card
Getting out of debt is never easy, but it starts
with strategic planning and budgeting. This article
will give you some advice for those who are taking
steps to improve their credit and become debt free.
The first plan of action is to step away from the
credit card. You should read this article in its entirety and
learn the steps to becoming debt free.
Everyone know credit cards make it easy for you to
purchase items even if you currently do not have the
cash to pay for it. It's called living beyond your
means. This leads to accumulation of credit card
debt. Unfortunately, it is only when the problem has
become so serious that people try to find ways to
relieve themselves of credit card debt. Of course,
there are still many things they can do to reduce or
eliminate credit card debt accumulation. However, it
is always best to simply avoid having debt problems
in the first place, easier said than done.
If you are one of those who are looking for ways to
eliminate or at least reduce credit card debt, there
are some options for you to choose from. Among the
most popular ones include credit card debt
consolidation. By doing this, you should be able to
benefit from a lower APR across your total debt.
This will also make your monthly payments more
manageable because it allows you to pay your total
debt with one credit card rather than many.
If you are already in deep financial trouble because
of your credit card debt and you are already
panic-stricken because you do not know what to do to
eliminate it, it may be best for you to seek the
advice of a credit counselor. A credit counseling
service will not only provide solutions for your
specific problems but an adviser will also be there
to help you avoid being in the same situation in
the future. You will be taught how you can better
manage your finances so that you can eliminate your
debt within the shortest time possible as well as
how to keep yourself debt-free.
Having credit card debt is not necessarily a bad
thing. It is only a problem if you have accumulated
debt that you cannot manage. For this reason, there
are important things for you to take note of if you
have at least one credit card and wish to stay out
of financial trouble. The first thing you have to do
is develop a monthly budget to control your spending
and expenses. Make your monthly budget reasonable
and develop it according to your monthly income.
Take into consideration your monthly bills,
necessities, and miscellaneous expenses -- such as
grocery shopping, gas, etc. When you get paid
always pay yourself first. You should be in a
position where you can at least pay yourself 25% of
your take home gross. Let's say you take home
$1,000 bi-weekly, then $250 should first come to you
--- in your pocket and the rest is used to pay down
your debt, bills, and expenses. I advise that
you put 40% of your $250 pocket cash aside for
savings and the remaining is put in your pocket for
frivolous spending or emergency cash. The
pocket cash should be broken down over the course of
15 days --- until next pay period. In this
case after saving 40% of the $250 you will be left
with $150 which then can be divided over a 15 day
period, which gives you a daily budget of $10.
In the above scenario you have paid your bills
and expenses, saved money, and created a daily
budget. Over a course of 30 days you will take
home $2,000. You will first pay yourself 25%
(or $500) then you will put 40% (or $200) into
savings with $300 left over for pocket cash, which
gives you a $10 daily budget over the course of 30
days. The remaining $1500 can be used to pay
off bills and expenses. As time progresses you
will eventually become at ease with this trend and
your debt will soon go down. As your debt goes
down, at some point many of your monthly bills will
go away which means more money you'll have to pay
yourself, so eventually you'll be able to pay
yourself more than 25% of your take home pay and
this in turn you will have more money saved.
Paying off your debts in this manner takes time and
is a skill you will need to mature, but once you get
in a groove you'll notice a trend and your debt will
disappear. Just like losing weight, its hard
work to take the pounds off, but its easy to
accumulate the weight. Same applies with
getting out of debt, it takes hard work, sacrifice,
determination, and dedication.
As much as possible, use cash when you purchase
items. This is the best way to keep you away from
credit card debt. This will also help you avoid
impulse buying which is the most common reason for
accumulating unmanageable credit card debt. Always
think twice about buying items you don't really
need.
Apart from these, try to keep away from having too
many credit cards. Just one or maybe two from
different companies should be enough to cover your
needs. If you have more, it will be easy for you to
accumulate credit card debt that you cannot afford
to pay for. Also, it would be best if you keep
yourself from charging over sixty to seventy percent
of the credit limit provided by each of your credit
cards. Lastly, do whatever you can to pay the full
amount of your charges each month. If you allow your
charges to carry over to the next month, you will be
charged interest and your credit card debt can
easily become unmanageable.
Having a credit card entails responsibility. You
should do what you can to avoid accumulating credit
card debt. If you already have credit card debt, you
should relieve yourself from it as early as possible
to avoid having more complicated financial problems.
One of the great ways to control your spending
habits and only use cash while still carrying
plastic is to opt for a reloadable prepaid credit
card. Reloadable prepaid credit cards are credit
cards which allow you to load money onto the account
so you spend only what you have, no late fees or
overdraft fees ever. Prepaid credit cards offer you
100% guaranteed approval no matter your credit
history. If you are serious about staying debt free
then you need to apply for your prepaid credit card.
It will help improve your credit score.
