Something Like Beautiful: One Single Mother's
Story
This true to life story is about a single mother,
Asha Bandele, struggle to survive in New York City. As a young poet, she fell in love
with a prisoner serving twenty-seven to life and she
became pregnant with his daughter. He was
expecting to released on parole, but was denied
parole. Upon his release he was deported to
his native country Guyana, never to see Asha or his
daughter again.
Struggling to hold it together Asha continued to
push on and raise her daughter the best way she knew
how. She held down a job at a high profile
magazine firm. From the outside looking in it
seemed that she was doing well, but on the inside
she was heartbroken and lonely. She started
smoking and drinking to relieve the pain. She
soon began dating again and fell into the wrong
relationship, things were going downhill for Asha.
Later, before it was too late she picked herself
up and got her inspiration from her daughter.
Knowing she had to be strong for her little girl she
showed the will to survive. She fought and
won, success succeeds determination. Asha
chose to share her story with other young women who
struggle with hardships and don't see a way out.
Her inspiring story is an encouraging display of
strength.
